I’m a huge fan of background noise. I’m actually listening to YouTube videos right now (which may be slightly distracting. I should really switch over to music.) While podcasts are less helpful as background for writing, they fill the uncomfortable void of silence while I draw or paint. I listened to a LOT of Chuistream durring Inktober.
Here's the four art-savvy podcasts I've been listening to. They're varied, and all worth giving a listen, no matter what kind of creative you are. On to the list!
A production of Jason Horejs, owner or Xanadu Gallery. This one gets pretty technical, and focuses on getting artists ready to show in galleries. I’ve learned so much from this podcast series, and appreciate the point of view specific to gallery owners. Want to hear about the art world from the sales floor perspective? Here you go!
Complete flip flop from the last podcast, The Abundant Artist is by two working artists of varied disciplines encouraging their listeners to jump in themselves and get dirty. They bring guests in to share insite about how they found success, and touch on some touchy subjects, like procrastination, self doubt, and focus on helping artists live creatively by their own rules.
Do you like video games and movies? This podcast focuses on concept and digital art, and contains some true nuggets of wisdom. Even if I make very different kinds of art from Bobby Chu and his guests, creatives of all kinds face similar hurdles in their careers. As an added bonus, if you're watching the videos made to go along with them, Bobby Chiu does speed paintings, or illustrates his points with these adorable little plant people. They're hecka cute.
Goofy, intelligent, dynamic ladies talking about art history, the art market, and how all of that fun college-y stuff relates to a listening artist? Yes please! Lots of energy, colorful stories, and spazy-friend tangents, this is my good times go-to.
So there we have it! A hand-full of (kinda really varied) art related podcasts for your listening pleasure. I hope you learn some stuff, find something entertaining, or at least fill the void of silence that is the bane of the hearing impaired everywhere. I’m really just trying to drown out the ringing in my ears, and if I can be entertained and learn things at the same time? Score.
Do you have a podcast I should add to the list? Post a link, and I’ll give it a listen-- with the volume way up, because I can't hear things.
Have an awesomely artful day!
